Rain, Rain, Go Away!

September 13, 2013. Garmisch, Germany

More Rain. This is four days in a row. I'm sick of it, do you hear me?

Our train trip from St Goar to Garmisch had 43 stops. None of them announced in English. Should anyone ever ask, "Have you ever been to.............", we probably have. Larsen gets tense when we have a four minute transfer and the next train is seven platforms away. Let me translate. Tense = Pissy.

Could someone please turn on the heat? Today was the first day of school for the German kids. Did you know they use the trains as school buses? We were picking them up and dropping them off all day. A couple practiced their English with us. They speak better English than we do German, for sure. One phrase we have nailed down: Nachte Halt........Next Stop.

Our First Rip Off
When we got to Garmisch, I thought I knew where our Hotel was. We walked about 8 blocks in the wrong direction. By then it had started to rain hard so we grabbed a cab. The ride cost 4.80 euro. It was still pouring when we checked out the next morning so we called another cab (same company) and he charged 7.50 euro for a shorter trip. And he seemed such a nice grandfatherly type. Grrrrrrr.

The Zugspitz
I'm really bummed about the Zugspitz. It was just so rainy and overcaste that we wouldn't have been able to see anything so we didn't go up. The plan was to take the cogwheel train half way, then switch to the gondolas for the rest of the trip to the top. Lunch at the summit restaurant. On a good day you can see across Austria and into Italy. What we could see of the mountain was gorgeous. Here are a couple pics off the web of what we didn't see. #%|€>*¥£#}!

On a happier note, we ran into this interesting couple; Gale and Patrick from New Jersey. They invited us to have dinner with them. Nice evening.

Looking forward to the train trip tomorrow through the Austrian Alps and the Italian Dolomites on our way to Venice.
